IMPERIAL WAR MUSEUM
HISTORIC ART STORAGE SYSTEM
CASE STUDY
1. BRIEF
To design a lightweight pull-out racking system with the look and feel of the existing hardware purchased from an American company no longer trading.
2. CHALLENGES
The ultimate requirement of this project was to create a lightweight system to remove load from an ageing concrete floor, whilst remaining capable of handling the immense weight of multiple pieces of artwork hanging either side.
Choosing to work with aluminium, we took on the challenge of cutting welding and finishing over 50 frames, to within a brand new supporting structure
3. EXPERIENCE
"At first what seemed to be an easy project soon unfolded into an engineer’s nightmare. The system had to copy the existing design which were side-by-side and made entirely out of aluminium to save weight. This had to be designed from scratch and manufactured in-house at our facility in Market Harborough, every aspect of this project had to be carefully designed and engineered to be strong and fit for purpose" ~ PW

We know as a museum this was going to be difficult to replicate given the constraints we have on the floor loadings and that the system was made all out of aluminium. X-Treme Systems were confident all the way through and delivered a system to brief and fit for purpose.
